Competency profiling is a process that aims to identify the skills, knowledge, abilities, attitudes and competencies required for effectiveness in a specific job role within an organisation.

In order to deliver projects and programmes more successfully, organisations need to have an understanding of what their objectives are and what capability they currently have to meet those objectives. If the capability doesn’t exist, or if they are unsure of what exists, then the resources may not be in place to deliver projects and programmes effectively. 

Logical Training Solutions have developed a profiling tool which is administered to individuals to determine their competence against industry standards such as PRINCE2, APM, MSP, MOR and PMI.

The competency based framework is designed to identify and assess individual competency against an organisations selected criteria. The competency framework can be administered using a web based tool complimented by a personal one to one interview, or using a paper based format. The results from this tool can be used in a variety of ways including to recommend training strategies, to provide a career development path or simply to recommend areas for coaching a mentoring.

 

How can an organisation really be sure that the Projects and Programmes they are delivering are the right ones? 

Can Senior Management be sure that customer needs will be met, that the strategic objectives will be delivered?

Can government departments be certain that their visions and targets will be achieved?

In times of rapid change, budgetary constraints and high risk, it is more important than ever that effort and resources are not wasted by delivering the wrong Programmes and Projects.

This is where Portfolio Management will help. Portfolio Management ensures that the ‘right’ Programmes and Projects are started and the ‘wrong’ ones are not (or are stopped if already underway).

What is a Health Check?

It is often difficult for people closely involved in a Programme or Project to take a truly objective view of the current state of play.  A Health Check is a proven way of doing this, it provides an independent assurance to the Programme/Project Manager and Programme/Project executive/sponsor on the current state of the Programme or Project.

It is an independent check of the status of the Programme or Project including the questions:

  • is it running to time?;
  • is it likely to produce the required outputs, to the right quality standard?;
  • is it being adequately managed?;
  • are all risks to the successful completion of the Programme or Project identified, mitigating action taken and regularly reviewed?

Through a combination of corporate self-assessment and independent investigation, Logical Training Solutions will carry out a ‘health check’ on specific project and programmes including the processes and standards within the organisation.

Logical Training Solutions will assist your organisation in identifying  aspects of the Programme or Project which are critical to success, and explain which are being carried forward well, and which need to be dealt with differently or with greater energy. 

We will produce an action plan, for the Steering Group or Programme/Project Board, which sets out what will be done by when, to address the issues raised at the Health Check.
